Torchlight Review

Posted on 07 November 2010

When Torchlight was announced and before it was released, many gamers were expressing dissatisfaction over how similar the game looked to one of the best-known RPG titles of all time, Diablo. And while it’s true that Torchlight does borrow quite a lot of Diablo’s gameplay (actually, some of you may not know but several of the major developers behind Diablo were actually involved in this project), saying that it copies Diablo would be like saying that, for example, Battlefield copies Call of Duty. They may look similar on the surface, but beneath that are two completely different games. Continue Reading

Mario & Luigi: Bowser’s Inside Story Review

Posted on 05 November 2010

A while ago, the developers of the Mario series realized they couldn’t just keep repeating the same old platformer formula over and over again and hope to keep players interested – so they expanded the franchise into other genres, such as racing games and even RPGs. Continue Reading

Black Sigil: Blade of the Exiled Review

Posted on 04 November 2010

When Black Sigil: Blade of the Exiled was announced, noone was really sure what to expect – the developers were fairly unknown (and actually a recently started company), and the game didn’t seem to feature anything in particular that made it stand out from the rest of the RPG titles for the Nintendo DS. Nier Review

Posted on 29 August 2010

Fans of Japanese-themed video games and RPGs in specific would probably remember Drakengard, a video game released by Square Enix some time ago. The developer is now back with another title that continues the story of their previous one, changing the gameplay a lot in some aspects, while also preserving most of the original game’s spirit. Even if you’re not familiar with the previous game in the series, you may still be interested in this, given the lack of quality RPG titles on the console platforms. Continue Reading

Monster Hunter Tri Review

Posted on 29 August 2010

The Monster Hunter series has enjoyed moderate success worldwide, which is weak compared to how the game is received in Japan, where it’s a huge hit. The lack of its international popularity may have prevented you from hearing of this franchise, and of the recently released third installment in it. The game made some changes to the gameplay, and to the franchise in general – the most drastic of which was probably the switch to another platform – the game is no longer for the PlayStation, but rather for the Wii.
